have kitten

I have always wanted to get a kitten, but it never seemed to be the right time. After 4 different trips to PetSmart, I finally found the perfect one! Leigh and Jonna came with me to PetSmart. They were having an adoption fair, and they also have cats for adoption at the store from a different shelter. There was a gray tabby that was very sweet and had the greenest eyes, but she was very timid and nervous. My ideal cat is one that will cuddle, play and be social. Jonna and Leigh had seen a cute orange tabby in one of the kennels and told me to check him out before I made any decision on the gray tabby.

I think I instantly fell in love with kitten 6703. He loved all three of us and was so content to be held, pet and purred intensely. After filling out the paper work, we roamed the store and picked out toys, litter box, and food to take home. Jonna and I gave him a bath, which he behaved so well! and dried him off.

It took me a few days before I decided on a name. Initially I wanted to name him Percy. I had picked out that name for a kitten many years ago, but having kitten 6703 at home, the name didn't suit his personality. He is very playful and bratty! Jonna suggested naming him Dyson (yes, like the vacuum) because he is always purring and moving around. The final name I was considering was Balthazor. The name is from a demonic character on Charmed. It seemed fitting since kitten 6703 is a little demon, Balthazor is the name I finally decided on. And for those who couldn't remember how to say Balthazor, I decided we can also call him Cole (Balthazor's human identity). When he misbehaves, he hears the entire name. Cole Balthazor, NO!

A few days after I brought him home he started sneezing, but he didn't seem to be sick. He was still playing, eating, drinking and using his litter box. That next weekend I went to FL to visist my mom, but Balthazor proceeded to get very sick while I was away. He was luckily still eating, but was very lethargic, weezing, sneezing and coughing (who knew kittens coughed). I brought him to the vet when I got back from my trip and found out he had a respiratory infection. They gave me antibiotics, vitamins for the virus and ear drops for his little ears. Its been over a week since the visit to the vet and he is doing MUCH better. He plays EVEN more now, not really sure how that's possible, but he does.

He's been a great addition to my and Evan's apartment. Even though he might not admit it, Evan loves him too!

valentine's day

I had a very full day planned, it just happened to also be valentine's day!

Saturday morning April and her roommate Makeila hosted a delicious homemade brunch. There were multiple egg casseroles, apple pancakes, french toast, fruit, juice, champagne, sausages.. anything and everything you could possibly want for breakfast, they had made! After eating and chatting for a bit we each got to take home a goodie bag with valentines, candy and a delicious cookie sandwich!

That afternoon I met up with Leigh for a mini spa appointment. We got our nails done and chatted. Leigh had been away for 2 weeks and that is just far too long! We had lots to chat about and catch up on. And made more plans to play for Sunday.

The rest of the afternoon I watched Firefly with Evan and worked on my surprise for Amy. I lost track of the time and realized I was late for dinner! Jonna offered to host a dinner and movie night at her apartment, and I had to head over. Sarah, Jonna, Evan and I enjoyed a delicious homemade lasagna, with salad and wine. Afterwards the girls relaxed with more wine and watched 27 dresses, I also got to play with Michelle's cat, who is so fat and cute!

I decided a few weeks back to visit my friend Amy in VT for a long weekend. Her husband Mike and their son James invited me to their home from February 7th - 9th. My flight left incredibly early Saturday morning and I was up and out and on my way before the sunrise.

Saturday they picked me up at the airport and James loved me immediately :) At least I like to think so! He's 17 months old and it was the first time I'd met him. He loves being read too, and he brought me many of the books he loves and I read them to him. We went to the Vermont Teddy Bear factory to make our very own special bears. James picked out a red bear, and I picked out a dark brown bear. We got to stuff them and pick out a bow tie. Afterward, we went to Church St which is in downtown Burlington (as downtown as Vermont gets, hehe) They were having a winter festival and each shop was working on ice sculptures in front of their shops. Of course we also had to stop for some Ben and Jerrys, before heading back home for the evening. That night a bunch of Amy and Mike's friends came over to play and visit. We played rock band, ate delicious pear dessert and watched Labyrinth (which Amy had given me as a present!)

Sunday we relaxed some more and watched Mama Mia - which was actually a better movie than I thought it was going to be. And quite often have the "honey honey" song stuck in my head. Amy and I went to see Coraline and met up with Chris and Dave. It was a really cute and a little bit creepy animated movie, but I really liked it. We went to church that night and afterward came home to watch Firefly - which is the best series and am so sad that it only lasted one season! I really thought that Evan would enjoy this "sci-fi western" show and when I got home Monday night I was telling him all about it - and how instead of making him watch Charmed (he puts up with a lot, hehe) we would watch Firefly instead. AND little did I know - he owns the season on dvd! So we've pretty much been watching that since I got back from VT 2 weeks ago, hehe.

Monday I was able to go with Amy to her doctors appointment before my flight home. She is almost 6 months pregnant (less than 100 days til her due date!) with baby number two! I got to hear her little heartbeat, and it was so amazing :D I can't wait to go back to visit after the baby is born! We had a little more time after the doctor's appointment so we got some lunch and went shopping for some maternity clothes, since her belly is getting bigger everyday! I'm so blessed to have such wonderful friends who would open their home to me. I had such an amazing weekend away. I was really sad to come back home, but it's a little easier knowing I'll be back to visit in a few more months!

belated xmas presents

I finally sent xmas presents to my friend Amy and her family. And I came home from class with this message waiting for me!

you are my hero
amy: and I think my husband said he wanted to kiss you
those bath crayons resulted in the first time in my son's life that he was mad when I took him OUT of the tub

James (who is 16 months old) has never been a fan of bath time, so I was nervous about getting him bathtub crayons but figured why not?! And, he loves them :D yay!

One more day!
